Writing
Writing is very important for all children, however, when younger children learn to write their name they are able to claim ownership of their belongings and papers. It is very interesting to see them when they are able to finally write their name on their papers and put them in their cubbies for the day. They are so very proud of themselves and they should be it is a big accomplishment for them. The assessment above is a simple, easy, and time friendly way to get the students to write the missing letters that they know ( which tests their writing ability) and at the same time tests their letter knowledge. It is an informal, formative or summative assessment that should take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. This can be given whole class or even in small groups because the main assessment here is writing the letter and as 4 and 5 year olds they are unable to copy anothers writing ability. This assessment was found on Pinterest and is gauged for Pre-k to first grade.

The assesment above is another way to gauge a students ability to write. It should be used as a more informal, formative assessment and could take around 10 minutes to complete depending on the students ability. It can be given whole group but small group would probally net a better assessment with minimal teacher guidance. I personally love this assessment because it gives the student the letter, then a place to trace the letter and finally they have to write the letter on their own. This assessment is designed for grades Pre-k or Kindergarten, and can be found on Teachers pay teachers.
