Spelling
Spelling is very important to emergent and fluent readers. However, when dealing with the younger student spelling doesn't always take a priority role. When teaching Pre-k students to read or young Kindergarten students having them learn the breakdown of the words so that they are able to hear the beginning sound and possible end sound is key. Then we work for the other sounds so that we can spell the words correctly. These three assessment all work with partial letters given so that the students are able to use context to finish the spelling of the words given. The two assessment on the right do this and should only take about 10 minutes to complete in small group or individually. The assessment to the left is a little different and should be used for kindergarten to 2nd grade to get an accurate assessment. When given in small group or individually this assessment is quite easy. The students are given a verbal list of sight words that they have to find and put a "Dot" on with paint dotters. All three of these assessments are informal, and can be measured as summative or formative depending on the teacher.
