Word Families
Word Families are a great way to help students learn to read. These assessments are all informal and formative. They are geared for Pre-K to first grade and will measure their ability to group words that belong in the same family. The first assessment above is using the cut out pictures and words and grouping them into their family groups on the wall chart. This can be done as a small group activity but under direct supervision so that the teacher is aware of who really understands the grouping. The assessment to the right is actual a roll the cube game that can be done individually in a small group. The student will use both die to find a word and to color the appropriate picture. The students can then be instructed to color each word family a different color to differentiate between the word families and assist them in learning the words. |
