Silent Reading Comprehension
|
|
Silent reading is so very important or a young emergent reader. It teaches them to read for longer periods of time; to have improved stamina, and to take their time to understand what they are reading. Above are two documents on how to teach your students to read silently. This can be measured as observation by the teacher and also orally if the teacher asks questoins about the book the student is reading. This is an informal formative assessment that should take approximately 5 minutes after the student has read the story. To grasp a more complete picture of the students comprehension of the material they have just read it is better to ask the questions in a small group or individually so that their answers are their own and not their classmates. Attached are two videos of a children silently reading and improving their reading stamina.
