Oral reading comprehension is way to listen to the students readingto check for fluency while also assessing their comprehension from what they have read. These four assessments are simple reads for students grades K-3 and should be given individually with the teacher in order for the student to have the teachers complete attention to their reading, and so that the teacher is able to accurately determine and document the students level of understanding or comprehension of the reading sample and answers. These types of assessments can also be given on the computer after being read to the teacher or assistant to make it more interesting for the students. This should be given as a formative informal assessment before working with the student with their reading and can also be given as a formal summative assessment after the student and teacher have worked on their reading skills. Also given is a video of a student reading aloud a story about penguins. This is a perfect opportunity to ask question about the book they are reading and to have them answer you orally versus written. This type of excercise would work well in small group or individually.
